Clachan Farm | 111 occupants (1841 - 2014)

Notes made in Alistair and Christie McCallum's house, which is the upper part of Clachan for which we have Crawford and Lindsey plans dated 1950. The ground floor porch appears to have the original fanlight and windows and match boarded ceiling, also original bell system. The original hall is separated from the flats at either side and a large handsome two-panelled door and fanlight goes into the bottom of the turning timber stair. The stair windows have heavy central glazing bars and final horizontal four pane sashes similar to those at Laglingartan. On the first floor landing there is one six panel door and one much later four panel door. Otherwise there are flush panels with lever handles, which were much altered during the Ian Lindsay work of 1950 and later. The living room has a brick fireplace, probably dating from around 1950. There was a sun porch built over the original porch: this also dates from 1950. The layout is the same as can be seen on the Lindsey plans for the cottage. The cottage has suspended ceilings throughout and according to Alistair the cornices are generally visible in the building above the ceilings. On the second floor there is a very nicely formed dormer window and the window in the stair is original. There are three four-panel doors and there is an original key to the press cupboard.
